Crystals

I really like crystals. I have always been drawn to them. That being said, I was also one of the first people to laugh when Heidi and Spencer went nutzo on “The Hills” and wouldn’t go anywhere without their crystals.

So whats with that?

This came from google. “Crystals emit positive uplifting, energizing and calming vibrations that help you achieve a more peaceful mind and a revitalized physical state of being”. This came right from Heather Askinosie, co-founder of Energy Muse; an online crystal shop.

So the question is why? And more importantly how does it work?

I didn’t take physics in high school, my anxiety told me that I wasn’t smart enough and I was concerned that if I took something I wouldn’t be good at that I would be at risk and would get bad grades. Looking back - thats the fucking point. The point is to learn. Thats why we go or went to school - to learn stuff. Anyway’s thats an entire other post.

I have been reading a lot about quantum physics and the law of attraction. To break it down (a lot) my girlfriend Taryn told me to think about it like this. Our body is made up of cells, cells are made up of atoms, atoms are made of sub-atomic particles and those are made of energy.  So essentially everything is made of energy.

Amy Mercree, a holistic health expert and author of “The Mood Book: Crystals, Oils and Rituals to Elevate Your Spirit” says That these vibrations and energies can affect our human bodies - and minds. “Our bodies are dynamic, electromagnetic organisms- we have physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energy flowing through us all the time”. It is said that ancient Egyptians used crystals for healing and protection; sacred Indian texts explain specific healing properties of various crystals and how to use them to treat illnesses. Chinese Medicine often includes the use of crystals; and ancient greeks and romans used crystals for protection in battle and in medical treatment. (Healing Crystals - Oprah Magazine)

How the law of attraction has been described is that you attract what you emit. Meaning, if you want to be happy, but feel blue, write down things that make you happy or write down 3 things that you are grateful for. By changing your mindset to happy thoughts it will help you “attract” more happiness into your life. It’s the power of positive thinking.

I believe in science, and I like to understand how things work. This is one of those things that I don’t understand. There isn’t proven science behind how it actually works, yet I have had a few “situations” or personal encounters that have made me a believer.  I know the idea isn’t new, but maybe there just isn’t enough research yet to prove these things. Either way  - I love it. If you can feel something, if it makes you happy (even if it’s just the placebo effect) - you do you!

Here are a few of my favourite crystals and what there healing properties are known to be:

Quartz:

Clear Quartz

Clear Quartz

Clear quartz opens the mind and heart. It is an amplifier and is suppose to intensify healing, growth or what ever it is that you set your “intention” to.

Rose Quartz:

The crystal of love. I love, love. I also really like this crystal. This crystal is also the stone of beauty, it promotes compassion, calm of course love. Wear it around your neck, in your bra, in your pocket or leave one on your bed side table ;-) .

I have a love story that has to do with this crystal, but I will save that for another time.

Amethyst:

This stone represents spirituality, it promotes creativity but I also have been told that it can have protective properties.  According to Cunninghams encyclopedia of crystal, gem and metal magic this stone is known for peace, love, protection, courage and happiness.

Side note: I bought this crystal when I first realized that I wanted to start working on myself. 4 years ago I came back from the most amazing trip. After 34 days of drinking I knew I needed to detox. I had heard this stone is helpful with combating or overcoming alcoholism.  I wore the necklace and had gone out with my girlfriends and I wasn’t able to drink. I was trying, but it just wasn’t working for me. That was a moment that caught my attention.

Garnet:

Known for healing, protection and strength. This stone is also known to magnify properties of other stones. I also like that its known to give spurts of energy.

I like this stone because it’s my birth stone

Black Onyx:

This stone is important to me, because it is the first stone I ever purchased. I bought myself a black onyx ring, from the aware house bookstore in Regina SK. The day I bought this ring was the day I got my first personal bank account and debit card.

Onyx is another protective stone. (There seems to be a pattern here) It is also known for defensive properties and sexual properties.

What are favourite stones? I would love to hear from you!

Peace & Love Forever
